Pete and Marion

Marion and I were hunting for a non-traditional venue for our wedding in January 2019 and after extensive searching, Marion came across The Village Barn website. We had already (almost) decided on a country house in Kildare but thought we would contact The Village Barn about a viewing. David returned our email (and all subsequent mails) immediately. He explained they were going through a renovation but would be happy to show to us. We accepted and took the (50 min) journey down. Even though the extension works was in full swing (with building material everywhere) we could see straight away that this was the place for us and we confirmed a booking that night. The venue price, per-head cost, menu choices and availability of nearby hotel accommodation were all factors for us. But really the “shabby chique” style with mis-matched furniture and quirky decorations were what sold us – this is what we wanted to share with our guests. We attended a food & wine tasting in March with other couples and that only further confirmed that we had made the right choice as the food was spectacular (David, please keep your feta, pea and mint option on the menu!). Wines Direct were also in attendance with different upgrade options. We also booked out the nearby Cosy Cottage and Turf Shed. We had no further contact with David until closer to our date (there was no point – he had weddings all summer) and then he was very responsive when we asked questions. We did travel down one more time to figure out what kind of decorations we were going to put into the sanctuary for our ceremony. We had access to the entire property from noon the day before the ceremony and that allowed us to decorate both the sanctuary and dining area. The day of the wedding could not have gone smoother. All our guests were stunned with the venue. Amy (the floor manager) was very attentive to both Marion and me and made sure that even though we were being pushed from photo to photo and relative to relative that we got a drink and some canapes – she also did a spectacular job of decorating our “cheese tower”. The band and DJ had easy access to the stage. We finished up at 2am (would love to have gone on longer) and David and staff made sure that everyone had a lift to their hotel and B&B. We could not have asked for a better day and are just thankful we found this venue before it becomes booked out years in advance!
